First Aiders will know that there is no specific list of requirements for a first aid kit, as long as it fits the purpose. However, if you are unsure what to include when building and restocking first aid kits, this list might be of some use:
- Plasters (20)
- Eye pads (2)
- Bandages (4)
- Safety pins (6)
- Dressings (2 large, 6 medium)
- Disposable gloves (3 pairs)
- Leaflet to give general advice for first aid
Another common inclusion is eye wash, which is especially useful on construction sites. Ice packs might be useful for cooling minor burns, while some First Aiders will keep a roll of cling film to protect more serious burns.
The most important thing is to make sure that someone appointed to be in charge of the First Aid Kit and that all staff are aware of what to do if an incident occurs.
First Aid Kit stock and maintenance is covered in the First Aid at Work course. Please contact us for availability, or to find out more.
